Plague, 2014/2015 Chinese ink on paper 24 (22 x 32) cm Exploring the process and the visual example of "Empty Drawings", "Plague" starts with a spiral movement directing the marks, filling the entire space of the sheet. The density of elements evokes an invasive and uncontrolled force, both for its movement and its size. Organized in modules, Plague announces an expanding scale, providing for the possibility of geometric accumulation. The images come in turmoil, suggesting the sound of swarms, also in the form of spirals, in some sort of vertigo. The effect of repetition takes now a monochromatic value marked by fully filled surfaces. As an infinite cloud, the orderly chaos in these drawings is set within the limits of the drawing. But this closure stresses the threatening effect of the series, establishing a tension between the spiral swirl and the edges of the pictures. (I) |
