Residues, 2014/2015 China Ink on paper, paper cut, collage 4 (22 x 32) cm During the execution of some drawings, the lines slip off the page and leave some marks on the surface below. As in "Fraction", these drawings are made by using the strokes that leave the edge of a sheet, marking the page underneath. These drawings have a "collateral" effect and a ghostly presence. In "Residue", the effect of the passing mark is mounted by gluing strips of paper. The alignment creates a writing effect in rows. But also, suggesting a broken code, like noise or static interference, as if, a hidden surface emerging in these pictures. So, Residue suggests the revelation of a concealed form or the disclosure of a kind of secret energy. The random nature of some lines is combined with repetitions and coincidences, reinforcing an idea of a coded picture, as opposed to a simple procedure by chance. (I) |
